Dental ~ Vision

& Other Voluntary Insurance Plans...

Both Dental and Vision are just a couple of the plans that are considered "Voluntary Insurance".  Voluntary Insurance are particularly useful when the primary insurance plan(s), whether that's through Medicare, Individual, or Group, does not include adequate coverage for a specific need.  For example, "Medicare will pay for dental services that are an integral part either of a covered procedure (e.g., reconstruction of the jaw following accidental injury), or for extractions done in preparation for radiation treatment for neoplastic diseases involving the jaw.  Medicare will also make payment for oral examinations, but not treatment, preceding kidney transplantation or heart valve replacement, under certain circumstances. Such examination would be covered under Part A if performed by a dentist on the hospital's staff or under Part B if performed by a physician."  In this example, Original Medicare alone does not cover services like oral exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, extractions, crowns, bridges, dentures, or root canals so a Dental Insurance plan may be a well suited option to have you properly insured.

Dental and Vision are often combined under one plan, but there are instances where they can be purchased separately, or as "stand-alone" plans.  In addition to Dental and Vision, other types of Voluntary plans are:

  • Hospital Indemnity
  • Accident & Sickness
  • Critical Illness
  • Cancer
  • Short-Term Disability
  • Long-Term Care
  • Life insurance

These Voluntary plans are designed to complement your current coverage, or lack thereof, not replace it.  Depending on your or your family's plan whether that's Individual Health, Medicare Supplement, or Medicare Advantage, one or any combination of these Voluntary plans could fill in those "gaps" to better suit your needs.
